  • Notes
    • [Arthur had the condition called " tetralogy of Fallot " , or by its common name, " blue baby syndrome " . He died in his early twenties. The cure for this involved a shunt to the heart and was devoloped in 1944 at John Hopkins. May 30, 2004 HBO released the movie that tells this fascinating story:

" SOMETHING THE LORD MADE is the story of two men - an ambitious white surgeon and a gifted black carpenter turned lab technician - who defied the racial strictures of the Jim Crow South and together pioneered the field of heart surgery. "
